Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified adult psychiatrist, recognized by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and The National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. Her expertise covers diagnosing and treating a spectrum of mental disorders: depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, PTSD, adjustment disorder, and bereavement/grief. Employing a holistic approach, she conducts comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, considering mental health, social factors, and cultural nuances.
Her academic journey includes extensive training at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston in the Texas Medical Center, followed by a rigorous 4-year psychiatry residency. Driven by evidence-based, patient-focused care, her practice model blends direct patient care and concierge services.
Previous to starting private practice, Dr. Nguyen was an Assistant Professor at the Louis A. Faillace Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, where she treated patients at the Harris County Psychiatric Center, and trained medical students and resident physicians. She continues her role in academia by serving as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.
Dr. Nguyen also has experience working in community psychiatry. She served briefly as the interim Medical Director of Behavioral Health at the Houston Area Community Services (HACS). In addition to her clinical duties, her roles included collaborating with primary care physicians and other medical professionals in the organization.
Specific to the Vietnamese community, Dr. Nguyen co-created a TV series in 2016 discussing in the Vietnamese language the different mental health disorders. Her dedication also extended to co-hosting a live mental health-focused radio show. The impact of educating and raising awareness in the Vietnamese community via mass media and social media can be seen today by the demand in mental healthcare.
In optimizing patient outcome by helping patients overcome mental barriers and reach their fullest potential, Dr. Elizabeth Nguyen sought further training to be a life coach. She received her certification from the International Coaching Federation.
